Financial literacy begins with education involving the bear essentials, a basic understanding of setting goals and what it takes to reach those goals. Aimed at early learners, The Berenstain Bears Financial Literacy Program focuses on one concept with four complementary components: Save, Share, Spend, Earn. Children grasp the concept easily since it is presented in a fun and familiar environment thanks to the recognizable and lovable Berenstain Bears. Our goal is to build a solid foundation upon which children can grasp more complex financial applications as they mature, thus becoming responsible adults.
Save, Share, Spend, Earn is not new to financial education but presenting it to children as young as 5-years-old is a strategy that sets Credit Unions apart from other financial institutions. The Berenstain Bears Financial Literacy Program is rapidly making the concept more popular around the globe. Most recently, the program was featured along with one of its most ardent supporters, The National Credit Union Foundation, in the UK’s Co-operative News.
The article offers excellent testimonial to the fabulous strides Credit Unions are making to educate members and their communities at large. It all begins with teaching the bear necessities.
